    Prime Minister sets an extra day to debate the President’s parliamentary speech

    Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed that the adjournment debate on the policy statement presented by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in Parliament today be postponed to January 21st in addition to January 19 & 20.

    The second session of the 9th Parliament and the first meeting of the ruling party group for this year was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Committee Room No. 01 in Parliament.

    The second session of the Ninth Parliament commenced this morning (18) under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

    The President presented the Government Policy Statement for the next three years.

    It was decided at the discussion chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to hold the Adjournment Debate on the Policy Statement on January 19 and 20.

    However, Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando requested Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to set aside the 21st Friday as well for the debate as the majority of government members are ready to speak in the debate.

    Accordingly, the Prime Minister instructed to inform the Speaker and obtain Friday, 21st for this debate.

    Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy has briefed the government ministers and MPs on the agreement regarding the development of the Trincomalee oil tank complex under the theme ‘Thel Tanki Yali Ratata’.
