The Commissioner-General of Labor Prabath Chandrakeerthi says that discussions will be held with the private sector trade unions tomorrow (8) regarding the payment of the Rs. 5,000 allowance given to state sector employees to private-sector employees as well.
He also stated that the trade unions are of the opinion that this allowance of Rs. 5,000 should be given to the employees of the private sector as well.
The unions point out that the current crisis in life affects government workers as well as private-sector workers.
Accordingly, Commissioner General of Labor Prabath Chandrakeerthi further stated that the trade unions of the private sector have proposed that this allowance should be given on behalf of the garment, estate, small and medium scale entrepreneurs and shops as well as institutions covered by the Office Employees Act representing all sectors of the private sector.
