Sri Lankan Poultry Traders Association states that many poultry farms across the country have been closed due to restrictions on the import of poultry feed.

Ajith Gunasekera, President of the Sri Lankan Poultry Traders’ Association, said that due to the non-issuance of letters of credit by commercial banks due to the shortage of dollars, many people in the country have been unable to import poultry feed and as a result, many have abandoned the poultry and egg business.

Therefore, there is a risk that the prices of chicken and eggs will go up again in the coming festive season, he said.

Mr. Gunasekera said that due to the shortage of dollars, it has not been possible to import maize, soya, and poonakku and their prices are also increasing day by day.
