The government decides to import 750 jeeps and 500 buses under the Indian Line of Credit

Cabinet approval has been granted to purchase 500 new buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board and 750 jeeps for the Sri Lanka Police, including 150 jeeps for the Police Special Task Force under the Indian Line of Credit.

The statement issued by the Cabinet Office in this regard is as follows.

The cabinet has approved the purchase of 500 new 32-35 seater buses to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) under the Indian Line of Credit during the Cabinet meeting held on 08 January 2020.

Accordingly, bids have been invited from three pre-qualified companies for the purchase of buses and from companies recommended by the Export-Import Bank of India for the purchase of jeeps.

Following the evaluation of the bids, the Cabinet approved the proposal made by the Minister of Transport to award the procurement of 500 new 32-seater buses to Ashok Leyland, India, and the proposal made by the Minister of Public Security to award the procurement of importing jeeps to Mahindra & Mahindra Company of India on the recommendations of the Standing Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet.
