The second phase of the Central Expressway will be opened to the public next month

The second phase of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala will be opened to the public on the 15th of next month, the Ministry of Highways said.

The total length of this section of the road consisting of 4 lanes is 40.91 km. The Ministry of Highways states that Rs. 137 billion has been spent for the construction of this section.

The section of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala consists of 5 Interchanges with Payment Counters.

These interchanges have been set up at Mirigama, Nakalagamuwa, Dambokka, Kurunegala and Yaggapitiya.

The Ministry says that this expressway has been constructed minimizing the environmental and social impacts.

The ministries also state that this has been constructed only through vacant lands, avoiding urban areas.

The Ministry of Highways further states that the road section from Mirigama to Kurunegala has been identified as the most beautiful expressway section in Sri Lanka at present.
