It is reported that 17 passengers have been hospitalized after a bus overturned on a slope near the Galodaya bridge in Padiyathalawa.
It is said that a bus carrying a pilgrim traveling from Kilinochchi to Kataragama had overturned without the driver being able to control it.
The injured passengers were admitted to the Maha Oya Hospital.
The bus had been traveling in heavy rain at around 2.30 this morning when the bus had fallen into the precipice due to the driver was not being able to see the road properly, police said.
The driver of the bus has been taken into police custody.
At the time of the accident, 47 persons including the driver of the bus were traveling.
