All 51,000 graduates who are being recruited and trained in the public service will be added to the permanent service from January 3, said Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, the chairman of the ministerial sub-committee appointed to look into the matter.

The graduates have been undergoing training at various government institutions throughout the country for about a year and have been approved by the Cabinet to be added to the permanent service with effect from January 3, Cabinet Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said.

Accordingly, the graduates will join the public service at the same place where they were undergoing training as development officers, he said.

Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena said that out of these 51,000 graduates, a select number will be given the opportunity to apply for teaching appointments.

22,000 teacher appointments are to be given and the graduates will be selected in accordance with the Teachers’ Service Minute after applying for them, said Dinesh Gunawardena.
