Chandana Lokuhewage, Director of the National Fertilizer Secretariat says that the cans of fertilizer are exploding due to the production of organic liquid manure from animal parts.

He said the fertilizer containers, which contain animal parts, produce gas due to microbial activity, which causes the containers to swell, explode or leak liquid fertilizer.

He also said that organic liquid fertilizer cans explode due to climatic conditions, during transport, and improper storage.

The director also said that there would be no environmental damage due to the explosion of these fertilizer cans.

However, the National Fertilizer Secretariat has launched a special investigation into the explosion of the fertilizer cans, said its director Chandana Lokuhewage.
