Three members of the same family were killed after colliding with the ‘Udarata Manike’ train traveling from Badulla to Colombo.
The accident took place near the 103 1/2 mile post between Rosella and Watawala railway stations.
The deceased have been identified as a mother (65), a father (75) and a son (41).
The three are residents of the Maskeliya area, according to the Watawala Police.
A railway employee has told the police that before the Udarata Menike train reached the Rosella railway station, the family had asked the arrival time of the train and headed towards the Watawala railway station. Accordingly, the police are conducting investigations as it is suspected that the three had committed suicide.
