A group of state workers is engaged in a trade union action tomorrow demanding an increase of Rs. 10,000 in their salaries.
Dhammika Munasinghe, a member of the trade union committee on salary increase, said that state workers belonging to a number of professions, including development officers, village officers, agro-research officers and postal workers, are engaged in the trade union action.
Mr. Munasinghe said the action would be taken on the basis of demands such as an increase in the salary of public servants by Rs. 10,000, withdrawal of the proposal to raise the retirement age to 65, withdrawal of the statement on why the state workers are a burden to the country and the granting of the right to freedom of expression to state workers.
Meanwhile, a large number of state workers will gather near the Parliament Roundabout in Battaramulla tomorrow at 12 noon to stage a massive protest, Mr. Munasinghe said.
