11 of the 22 charges filed against Ravi on Bond scam were removed

Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and 10 others have been acquitted of 11 of the 22 charges of criminal breach of trust in 15 billion rupees worth of bonds issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka during the bond auction on March 31, 2016.

The lawyers who appeared for the accused today stated that they could not pursue the 11 charges against them and that the defendants should be acquitted of the charges.

The case was taken up before a three-judge bench comprising Justices Amal Ranaraja, Namal Balalle and Aditya Patabendige.

Judge Aditya Patabendige, a member of the three-judge bench, said that 11 of the charges against the accused could not be pursued.

Additional Solicitor General Priyantha Navana, appearing for the Attorney General, asked the court whether to amend the charge sheet filed against the accused or to Remove it Or to give a date to decide to pursue an alternative legal course of action.

Accordingly, the court directed that the case be taken up on January 26.
