The World Health Organization (WHO) has named the new corona virus strain identified in South Africa as Omicron.

Accordingly, it is reported that this new variant has been considered as a variant to be cautious at the emergency meeting of the World Health Organization which met yesterday (26).

Scientists point out that the Omicron variant shows a higher number of mutations compared to the corona virus variants identified so far, and that it has a faster rate of spread.

South Africa first reported the strain to the World Health Organization (WHO) on the 24th, and the new strain is identified in South Africa as well as Botswana, Hong Kong and Belgium.

With this, many countries including Britain, have already decided to close their borders to tourists from South Africa.

Also last night, US President Joe Biden decided to close the border from next Monday not allowing tourists from South Africa and eight other countries to enter the US.

However, some groups have criticized the closure of the border for people from South Africa, while others suspect the virus may have spread to other countries.
