Sri Lanka has visited the International Monetary Fund several times, but it does not appear to have resolved the country’s economic crisis, so it is only an option for the current government, said Sagara Kariyawasam, Attorney-at-Law, Secretary-General of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

He said at a press conference today that if there is a country that has gone to the International Monetary Fund and solved its problems, the people who say us to go to the International Monetary Fund should point out them.

“Our country has been to the International Monetary Fund several times before. Have we ever been able to overcome these economic problems? Or what other countries have gone ahead with the International Monetary Fund and solved their country’s literary problems?” The people who ask us to go to the fund should tell this country that in particular which countries have gone to the International Monetary Fund and solved the problems of their own country or which instances that our country has gone before IMF and solved the problems of our country in the past. Therefore, our government considers it only as an alternative,” said the General Secretary of the SLPP, Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam.
