Vegetable prices have risen as never before

Vegetable prices have risen abnormally so far.

At the Peliyagoda Manning Market this morning, the price of most vegetables had exceeded Rs. 300 per kilo.

The price of a kilo of vegetables including carrots, leeks, beans, tomatoes was over Rs. 300 and the price of a kilo of Capsicum was over Rs. 400.

When the wholesale price goes up, the retail price of vegetables also goes up and most vegetables fetch more than Rs. 80 per 250 grams, according to the retail market.

Anil Indrajith, the chief organizer of the Manning Market, said vegetable prices would continue to rise in the coming days. He also stated that vegetable prices have gone up as never before. “God bless the people if this goes on,” he said.
