Another flood warning – Many rivers are overflowing

The Irrigation Department states that there is a risk of rivers and streams of Kelani, Nilwala and Kalu overflowing due to heavy rains.

The Department of Irrigation states that there is a risk of minor floods in the low lying areas of Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Kolonnawa, Colombo and Wattala Divisional Secretariats as the water level in the upper reaches of the Kelani River Basin has increased significantly.

The Nilwala and Kalu rivers are also rising and there is a risk of flooding in some low lying areas, the Irrigation Department said in a statement today.

Due to the rising water level of the Maha Oya, there is a risk of flooding in the Grama Niladhari areas of Waradagolla, Naula, Divuldeniya and Welihi as well as the low lying areas of Alawwa, Mirigama, Wennappuwa, Negombo and Katana Divisional Secretariats.

The Irrigation Department states that the Seethawaka river is also overflowing.
