The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna celebrates its 5th anniversary today.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is also the youngest party in the country to produce a President in a short period of time and win the largest number of consecutive local government and parliamentary elections.
In 2015, groups that split from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party formed the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna under the leadership of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
In a very short period of time, they were able to form a new party and gain control of all political spheres in the country, adding a number of new records to the parliament that represented the party for the first time.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), also known as ‘Pohottuwa’, is popular among the people.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna also represents the current government led by the President.
A special convention is being held at the Nelum Pokuna Theater in Colombo to mark the anniversary under the patronage of the party leader, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Following is a live broadcast of this day’s celebration.
