A team of medical experts in Germany has discovered that A.30 covid strain is immune to Pfizer and AstraZeneca Vaccines.
They said that this was not a new variety but an old variety, and that this variety had not been reported for months.
The final A.30 samples were reported between May and June this year.
According to GISAID – COVID Variety Monitoring Network, only five A.30 patients have been reported worldwide.
It has been reported as three in Angola, one in Sweden and one in the United Kingdom, the German expert team said.
However, Minister of State Prof. Channa Jayasumana says that Sri Lanka is paying close attention to this issue.
He says the new strain has been identified as highly effective in getting rid of antibodies caused by vaccines.
