A smuggled turmeric consignment was arrested before the distribution

The Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested two suspects with 1864 kilos of turmeric brought to Sri Lanka by sea from India.

The suspect was arrested while the consignment of turmeric was being transported by a lorry in the Sedawatta area in the Grandpass Police Division, the STF said.

According to information received by the Gonahena camp, the two suspects arrested during the raid were residents of Mawanella. The suspects, aged 47 and 27, were preparing to take the turmeric consignment to Mawanella in a lorry. The lorry was also taken into police custody, the STF said.
