Power and Energy Minister Gamini Lokuge has said that consumers who are unable to pay their electricity bills due to corona will be given a two-year grace period to pay their outstanding electricity bills in installments.
Accordingly, consumers can pay their outstanding electricity bills in monthly or several monthly installments, he said.
Gamini Lokuge also said that a simple interest rate will be charged for electricity bills to be paid in installments.
Gamini Lokuge said that the interest rate charged and the method of paying the bills will be announced soon.
Gamini Lokuge also stated that the value of bills submitted throughout the country that have not been paid so far has exceeded Rs. 44 billion.
