The number of pregnant mothers in Sri Lanka who have been diagnosed with corona infection has exceeded 5,000, said Specialist Dr. Chithramali de Silva, Director of the Family Health Services Bureau.
About 200 of the 5,000 corona patients found so far are being treated in hospitals today, she said.
She added that the number of pregnant mothers who died of corona infection was 52.
Meanwhile, 90% of pregnant mothers in Sri Lanka have been vaccinated against Covid, said Dr. Chithramali de Silva.
She added that a small number of pregnant mothers with various complications and misconceptions about the vaccine haven’t received the vaccine yet.
The specialist doctor also said that pregnant women should be vaccinated against Covid for the safety of their lives and the safety of their unborn children.
