The Election Commission says that it will take about three weeks to fill the vacancy in the Moneragala Pradeshiya Sabha.
The Elections Commission says they need 3 weeks to select a new suitable candidate for the representative of the Maduraketiya division of the Moneragala Pradeshiya Sabha as the previous candidate’s seat has been vacated following a case filed by the Moneragala High Court alleging bribery and money laundering during the election season.
The Elections Commission has stated that the lost candidate will have 21 days to appeal and if he does not appeal within 21 days, another suitable candidate will be appointed to fill the vacancy.
The Election Commission says that if the candidate who has lost his seat, anyhow, files a case in the Court of Appeal, the vacancy will not be filled until the decision is received.
