Deputy Inspector General of Police Dileep Peiris presented to the Attorney General today (13) in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that the deletion of computer data by the National Drug Regulatory Authority could be part of a crackdown on drug traffickers.

He was appearing before the court regarding the investigation into the deletion of the computer database of the Drug Regulatory Authority.

The Deputy Solicitor General pointed out that the responsibility of maintaining the computer database of the National Drug Regulatory Authority had been taken over by a private company called ‘Epic Lanka’ for a period of five years and that the relevant institution had failed to fulfill its responsibilities properly.

He also said that some pharmaceutical companies are importing the same drug under different names and due to the erasure of data, it has become possible for the pharmaceutical companies to set the prices of the drugs as they wish.
